GEOGRAPHY It is located in the Atlantic Ocean west of Great Britain. It is bordered to the north by the Atlantic Ocean and the United Kingdom (Northern Ireland), to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Celtic Sea and to the east by the Irish Sea and the Strait of Saint George. Its surface area is 70,273 km², and it has 360 km of borders. Ireland looks like a mountainous country, although the altitudes of its mountains are modest. It is a large ancient massif slightly sunk inside, which has been occupied by sedimentary rocks forming, thus, a rippled plain. The mountains have an altitude of between 150 and 900 meters.
